Sometimes, you experience a difficult season of life. And then you encounter someone who's going through something much worse than anything you've ever imagined. That sobers you up on the spot. You realize that, while things are bad on your end, you still have some room to manoeuvre. You still have options. You're not up against the wall like this other person.
That's life for you.
The sad thing is that sometimes, it takes years for you to realize that this other person has hit rock bottom. To all appearances, he's an achiever, living a full life. He seems to be at the pinnacle of his career and to have a happy, thriving family. His social media accounts confirm that impression. It is only when he attempts suicide and fails or ends up in the ICU after years and years of drinking his liver into submission that you realize that not all was well.
That's what life sometimes is: experiences that you can hardly wrap your mind around and the realization that, despite it all, you can still dig deeper to find the strength to take a few more steps.
